The auction sale of a 1955
Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé has bring up whopping amount of
$143
million (135 million euros or 1100 crore approx) in a private auction to a
private collector. The previous
record for a car sold at auction was $70 million, for a 1962 Ferrari (RACE) 250 GTO in 2018.
This icon of automotive history is an absolute rarity – one
of just two prototypes built at the time. It is consider
as to be one of the world finest automobile engineering master piece created by
chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut, & also named
after him. Only 2 pieces of the marvelous design were made & were not meant
to be sold.
The “Merecedes-Benz
Fund” – Global Scholarship Program (Educational & Reseach Scholarships
for young people in environmental science & decarbonisation) was the prime
reason for carrying out this sound auction decision.
This was the
best opportunity for Vintage Collector to get in hand to a Car which never gets
its hand in public & with a powerful performance & the most innovative design;
no doubt it is “The Most Valuable Car of
the World.”
The private
owner has agreed to made vehicle accessible to public on special occasion &
other 300 SLR will remain to be displayed in ‘Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart’ under company ownership.
“We are proud that we can contribute with our
historical collection to this initiative connecting the past with the future of
engineering and decarbonisation technology. The private buyer has agreed
that the 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé will remain accessible for public display on
special occasions, while the second original 300 SLR Coupé remains in company
ownership and will continue to be displayed at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in
Stuttgart.“
